Key takeaways

  • Instant, the Shopify page builder at instant.so, publishes real Liquid into your theme, but every plan caps theme sections and its free plan covers development stores only.
  • Fudge is the only alternative that keeps native code output; every drag-and-drop alternative moves you back onto an app render layer. As the AI operator for Shopify stores, Fudge also suggests what to build next and covers SEO, quizzes, bundles, and popups.
  • PageFly is the pick for a mature editor and the largest community, GemPages for CRO templates, EComposer for budget stores, Shogun for built-in analytics, and Replo for Figma-minded design teams.
  • Instant’s free plan covers development stores only. PageFly, GemPages, and EComposer publish free on a live store, and Fudge has a free trial for building drafts, plus a free plan for audits and exploration.

Instant is the Shopify page builder at instant.so, listed on the App Store as “Instant AI Page Builder”. If you searched for Instant alternatives or “instant.so alternatives”, this is the tool we mean: the drag-and-drop editor with the Figma plugin, not another product sharing the name. The main alternatives are Fudge (native code from a prompt), Replo, PageFly, GemPages, EComposer and Shogun.

Instant earned its users for two real reasons. It is the one traditional drag-and-drop builder that publishes real Shopify Liquid into your theme, and its Figma-to-Shopify plugin is polished.

Merchants still move on for three specific reasons, listed below.1

This guide compares six alternatives on the axis that matters most when you leave Instant: what happens to your code. For the category-wide view, see our best Shopify page builders guide.

Why you can trust us

We have spent 4+ years building on Shopify, worked on hundreds of stores, and handled dozens of migrations between these exact tools, in both directions.

Full disclosure: we built Fudge, the AI operator for Shopify stores and one of the six alternatives below. It holds a 4.9 rating and Built for Shopify status, and it appears first in this list. Weigh our take on it accordingly.

Every competitor claim is sourced from the tool’s live App Store listing, checked August 27, 2026, with ratings and prices rechecked October 27, 2026, and footnoted so you can verify it.

Why merchants look for an Instant alternative

  • Section caps on every tier. Starter allows 10 theme sections, Pro 20 and Business 50, so a growing store buys its way up through tiers to keep building.
  • No free plan for live stores. The free Developer plan covers development stores only and shows Instant’s branding. Publishing on a real store starts at $39/month on Starter, which also removes the branding, after a 7-day trial.
  • A smaller community than the incumbents. Instant sits at 351 reviews; PageFly, GemPages, and EComposer have each collected several thousand, with the tutorials and community answers to match.

Instant alternatives at a glance

This list is grouped by use case, not ranked overall. Fudge appears first because we build it.

The Code output column is the one to read first. PageFly, GemPages, Shogun, Replo, and EComposer render pages through an app JavaScript layer: it adds weight to every load (our page builder speed test measured it), and the pages depend on the app - at uninstall they stop rendering or freeze. Instant and Fudge write native Liquid into the theme: no render layer, and pages survive uninstall.

Put plainly: if you picked Instant for its native code output, five of these six alternatives take that benefit away. Only Fudge keeps it.

Fudge: best for native code output without section caps

Fudge is the only Instant alternative that keeps theme-native output: it writes plain Liquid, CSS, and JavaScript directly into your theme, with no render layer, no section caps and no Fudge branding on any plan.

The workflow is different, though. Fudge is the AI operator for Shopify stores, not a drag-and-drop editor, and its page builder works from a prompt. It reads your theme, products, installed apps, and ad creatives, then builds or edits pages. Every page starts as a draft you preview; nothing publishes without your approval.

Because the output is ordinary theme code, pages survive uninstall, with no branding or attribution. Scope goes beyond landing pages: Fudge edits existing pages, builds quizzes, bundles, popups, comparison tables, FAQ sections with schema markup, and campaign launches, and plans SEO articles for your blog. You do not have to know what to build first, either. Fudge can read your store data and Google Analytics, spot the pages where shoppers drop off, and suggest the fix. Each page it builds reports its visits, conversion rate and purchases, compared with the weeks before.

Fudge starts with a free trial to build and preview pages as drafts (5 days, or 14 on Scale, no credit card). Paid plans start at $79/month, with a $25/month Launch plan for new stores under $2,000 in sales over the last 30 days, and a free plan covers exploration and store audits.

Trade-off: Fudge has no pixel-by-pixel manual placement, no Figma import, and no built-in A/B testing; it compares results before and after a change instead. Merchants who want to drag every element by hand get more granular control from a traditional builder.

Choose Fudge if: you chose Instant for real Liquid output and want the same benefit without the section caps or the per-tier ladder, and you want the same app to handle SEO, quizzes, and offers too. For the head-to-head, see Fudge AI vs Instant.

Replo: best for Figma-style design teams

Replo is the closest match for Instant’s design-tool feel among the alternatives: a Figma and Webflow-style canvas with component libraries, built-in A/B testing, and page-level revenue analytics.

It is built for agencies and design teams rather than solo merchants, with a Replo Experts network and Online Store 2.0 sections.

The costs are real. The free tier is build-and-preview only: no time limit, but you cannot keep pages published on it. Starter is $119/month for 15 published items, Pro is $599/month for unlimited, and the pricing has changed shape repeatedly over the past year. Unlike Instant, pages render through Replo’s app layer rather than living in your theme.

Trade-off: you give up Instant’s native Liquid for an app render layer, at the highest prices in the category.

Choose Replo if: a design team or agency runs your landing pages and budget is not the deciding factor.

PageFly: best for a mature editor and the largest community

PageFly is the most-reviewed page builder on the Shopify App Store, and the safest pick if you mainly want a bigger community and a more battle-tested editor.

The free plan includes 1 published page or section slot, 320+ templates, and 10 AI credits, with paid plans from $24/month. Support is a strength: 24/7 live chat on every plan, including free. The grid drag-and-drop feels familiar from Wix or Squarespace, and the integration ecosystem runs deep.

PageFly pages render through its JavaScript layer, which adds weight to every load, and pages stop rendering at uninstall - the opposite of Instant’s behavior. Paid tiers scale by page slots, up to $299/month.

Trade-off: you trade native Liquid for an app render layer, and costs climb with page count.

Choose PageFly if: you want the most mature drag-and-drop editor and community, and theme-native code matters less than editor polish.

GemPages: best for CRO template volume

GemPages has 400+ CRO-focused templates, plus an image-to-layout AI that turns a screenshot or URL into an editable page.

Image-to-layout is the nearest thing to Instant’s Figma plugin in this list: it starts from an image rather than a design file, but the design-in, page-out idea is the same. The free plan publishes 1 page, Build is $29/month, and post-purchase upsells come bundled.

Two caveats. A/B testing is gated to the $59/month Optimize tier, and pages depend on GemPages’ app-JS render layer, so they stop working at uninstall.

Trade-off: template breadth and CRO tooling in exchange for app-dependent pages and a paid tier jump for testing.

Choose GemPages if: you build lots of campaign pages from templates or mockups and want upsells in the same tool.

EComposer: best for budget stores

EComposer is the budget pick among Instant alternatives: a workable free plan, Standard at $25/month, and 29 bundled conversion extensions like sticky add-to-cart and cross-sells that would otherwise be separate apps.

You get 400+ templates and 1,000+ section layouts, plus 24/7 live chat. For a small store replacing Instant’s $39/month Starter, it is the lowest-friction landing spot.

Like the other drag-and-drop options here, pages render through EComposer’s app layer, and its docs and community are smaller than PageFly’s.

Trade-off: lowest cost in exchange for an app render layer and a thinner support ecosystem.

Choose EComposer if: price drove you away from Instant and you want bundled conversion extras instead of native code.

Shogun: best for built-in analytics and testing

Shogun is the pick for merchants who choose a page builder to measure pages, not just build them: page-level analytics (CTR, conversion, bounce), A/B testing, and personalization through Smart Pages are built in.

It also ships an AI Section Builder, content scheduling, and support for custom HTML, CSS, JS, and Liquid elements inside pages. Custom code elements do not make pages theme-native, though - they still render through Shogun’s app layer.

Pricing is the sticking point. Draft Mode is free but cannot publish anything, so there is no free published page at all. Build is $39/month with page caps, then the steps are steep: Grow at $199/month and Advanced at $499/month, and Shogun also lists a standalone A/B Testing app, so check its listings for which plans include analytics and testing. Trials run 10 days.

Trade-off: the most built-in measurement of any tool here, gated behind big price jumps and an app render layer.

Choose Shogun if: analytics and experimentation are why you are switching, and your revenue supports the tiers where those features live.

The free route: Shopify’s theme editor

Before paying for any alternative, check whether Shopify’s own theme editor already covers you. Online Store 2.0 themes are free, native, and handle basic sections, banners, and simple landing layouts.

Page builders exist for what themes do not ship: complex campaign layouts, quizzes, heavy CRO work. Our guide on how to create a landing page in Shopify shows how far the editor stretches before you need anything else.

Who should stay with Instant

Honest answer: some merchants should not switch. Among traditional drag-and-drop builders, Instant is unique - the only one that writes real Liquid into your theme, so pages survive uninstall and stay editable in the Theme Editor.

If your team designs in Figma, the Figma-to-Shopify plugin is polished, the template library spans 800+ options, and A/B testing is available on Pro. If your section usage fits your tier, Instant remains a defensible choice.

Switch when the section caps, the per-tier pricing, or the dev-store-only free plan cost more than the familiarity is worth. Our Shopify page builders comparison sets Instant beside the whole field.

How to switch without breaking your pages

Because Instant pages are real theme code, they keep rendering while you rebuild - there is no uninstall cliff. Work in order:

  1. Map your pages. List every Instant-built page, its URL, and its traffic before touching anything.
  2. Rebuild in a draft or duplicate theme. Our migrate from Instant to Fudge guide walks the Fudge version step by step.
  3. Test cart, checkout, and mobile. Buy buttons, checkout flows, and small-screen layouts break most often in rebuilds.
  4. Keep URLs identical, or 301. Never let an old landing page 404.
  5. Switch traffic last. Publish the new theme or pages only after everything above passes.
  6. Clean up leftover app code. Remove Instant’s leftover sections and assets once replacements are live - our guide on removing leftover app code from Shopify covers the safe way.

FAQ

What is the best alternative to Instant (instant.so)?

It depends on why you are leaving. If you chose Instant for its native Liquid output, Fudge is the only alternative that keeps theme-native code, and it adds no branding to published pages on any plan. If you want a traditional drag-and-drop editor, PageFly has the largest community, but it renders pages through an app layer.

Does Instant remove its branding from published pages?

Only on paid plans. The free Developer plan, which works on development stores only, shows Instant branding; plans from Starter at $39/month remove it. Fudge adds no branding to your storefront on any plan.

Do Instant pages survive uninstalling the app?

Yes, and that is a strength. Instant publishes real Shopify Liquid into your theme, so pages keep rendering and stay editable in the Theme Editor after uninstall.

What is the difference between Instant and Fudge?

Both write native Liquid into your theme instead of rendering pages through an app layer. Instant is a drag-and-drop editor with a Figma plugin, and every plan caps theme sections. Fudge is the AI operator for Shopify stores: it builds pages from a prompt as drafts you approve, adds no branding on any plan, and compares each page's numbers before and after.

Is there a free alternative to Instant?

Instant's free plan covers development stores only, so several alternatives are freer in practice. PageFly and GemPages each publish one page free on a live store, EComposer has a free plan, and Fudge has a free trial for building drafts, plus a free plan for exploration and store audits. Shopify's own theme editor is free on every plan.

Which Shopify page builders output native code?

Instant and Fudge. Both write real Liquid into your theme with no app render layer, so pages survive uninstall. The difference is how you build: Instant is a drag-and-drop editor with section caps per tier, while Fudge builds and edits pages from a prompt.
